Classical Guitarist Performs Free Concert This Sunday

Diverse classical guitarist Kevin Lorenz will present a free concert Sunday, March 6th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Chapman Cultural Center as part of the venue’s weekly Sundays Unplugged program.

In addition, the public can enjoy free admission to Chapman’s museums and galleries.

Lorenz’s musical career has many facets including performance, conducting, composition, teaching, and arranging, all in many different musical styles. Lorenz focused classical guitar at UNC-Greensboro, where he earned his doctorate degree in music education. He uses his training in classical music and applies it to other styles including jazz, pop, ragtime, bossa nova, and Irish music. Currently, he is Director of Music and a music teacher at Emmanuel Lutheran Church and School, where he regularly plays his many arrangements for solo guitar. Also, he teaches guitar at Montreat College, where his arrangements for guitar ensemble are frequently performed, including works for guitar ensemble with chamber orchestra. Lorenz has performed with the Asheville Symphony and the North Carolina Pops Orchestra, and as a soloist he has played in churches, theaters, hotels, colleges, universities, bed-and-breakfasts, country clubs, and many other venues. In addition to Lorenz’s free concert, Chapman will be open 1-5 p.m. with free admission to Spartanburg Art Museum, Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg Gallery, Spartanburg Regional History Museum, and the Student Galleries, which are currently featuring several hundred works of arts by local students in celebration of National Student Art Month. Sundays Unplugged is a longstanding community outreach program that provides a no-stress environment for patrons to enjoys local arts and culture on Sunday afternoons.
