This coming Sunday, March 8, Chapman Cultural Center patrons will enjoy alternative pop artist Abbey Elmore’s first performance at Chapman Cultural Center.
A 14 year-old Gaffney resident and lead of The Abbey Elmore Band, Elmore writes songs about love and angst. Her style is a blend of acoustic and rock sounds with pop elements. She recently released a music video for her band’s song “Us Undaunted,” now available for viewing on YouTube. Guitarist and vocalist Elmore will be joined this Sunday by the band’s drummer Tyler Tullis, who will play the cajón, a box-like percussion instrument from Peru played by slapping the front and back sides.
Elmore and Tullis’s performance will be complemented by free admission to Spartanburg Art Museum and Spartanburg Regional History Museum, as well as Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg and the Student Galleries, which are both also celebrating Youth Art Month.
Allana Farmer, part of father-daughter duo Harana, performed last Sunday, March 1, to kick off the Youth Art Month theme. Teenage accordionist Vince Demor is scheduled for Sunday, March 15; USC Upstate’s Honors Music students will provide a free concert on March 22; and local pop sensation Kylie Odetta plays March 29.
Chapman Cultural Center’s free weekly concert series as part of its Sundays Unplugged program is featuring young musicians for March in celebration of National Youth Art Month. Sundays Unplugged presents a different singer-songwriter on the Center’s campus every Sunday, 2-4 p.m., for the public’s casual enjoyment, and this Sunday features guitarist Abbey Elmore.
