Chapman Cultural Center is Spartanburg’s premier location for casual and cultural entertainment on Sunday afternoons.
During the Center’s Sundays Unplugged program, locals can enjoy free admission to the history museum and art galleries, 1-5 p.m., and a free mini-concert by a regional musician, 2-4 p.m, every Sunday. It’s a great way to “unplug” with experiences in music, art, history, and science with the whole family.
This Sunday, Sept. 28, vocalist/guitarist Travis Smith will be the featured musical guest. Smith has brought his soulful sound to audiences throughout the southeast, performing in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Having been a featured act at Fall for Greenville, Spring Fling in Spartanburg, and benefit concerts for community outreach centers in the Upstate, Smith is rapidly becoming a forerunner in the local music scene. His signature style is acoustic soul on guitar, heavily influenced by motown hits of the ’60s. Not only a solo performer, Travis Smith also plays with his band: The Travis Smith Project. Together, they have released two albums entitled “Childhood” (2009) and “Thinking of You” (2012). Their sound is often an eclectic mix of R&B, country, and gospel.
In addition to the concert, patrons can enjoy free admission to Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg Gallery, Spartanburg Art Museum, Spartanburg Regional History Museum, and the Student Galleries. Spartanburg Science Center is open with a small fee.
