Public Safety
The public safety staff provides safety and security for the campus community. It is also a goal of the staff to uphold and enforce campus regulations and applicable federal, state, and local laws. Officers are trained and certified through the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
It is the mission of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office to provide services to our citizens that meet or exceed the professional standards established for internationally accredited law enforcement agencies. To provide equal enforcement and protection of the law, without prejudice or favor.
The mission of the South Carolina Highway Patrol is to provide equitable service and protection, uphold the laws of the constitutions of the United States and the State of South Carolina in order to promote a safe and secure environment for the public.
The Public Safety Department is comprised of the following three divisions: Police Services, Fire Division, and Technical Support. Within the organization, there are 144 sworn law enforcement, 69 firefighters, and 44 civilians. The Public Safety Agency provides emergency police and fire response for a residential population of approximately 47,000, which swells to a daytime population that exceeds 125,000, which includes workers outside the city limits.
Baby & Me is an evidence-based smoking cessation program created to reduce the burden of tobacco on the pregnant and postpartum population. There are several Upstate chapters that offer help year-round.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections is a system of 24,000 incarcerated adult offenders, 29 institutions, and 5,800 employees. The website aims to provide useful, current information in describing the agency’s functions and operations.
