The Appalachian COG, as the southern end of the appalachian region defined by the Appalachian Regional Council, provides support, funding, and council services to the municipalities and local governments in the six county Upstate region of South Carolina.
The Spartanburg County Foundation serves Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union counties and is the oldest community foundation in SC. It is home to many community funds and initiatives that work to improve the quality of life in Spartanburg County, such as the Citizen Scholars Program and the Southside Unity in the Community Fund.
SCORE offers free and confidential counseling to anyone who plans to start a business. Workshops and links to helpful resources are available on the website.

The Urban League of the Upstate is a non-profit organization committed to the principle of equal opportunity for all citizens in housing, education, employment, and economic development, without regard to race or socioeconomic status.
We help workplaces improve through information, training, and involvement. Area businesses improve and grow a healthy economic climate by promoting sound business practices and creating cooperative solutions through the Spartanburg Development Association (SDA). The SDA provides services including seminars, custom training, publications and consulting.
This center offer a variety of services and management training courses tailored to meet the needs of small & medium-sized businesses. SBDC consultants at each site provide managerial and technical assistance to those wishing to start or expand an enterprise.
