It’s 1606. William Shakespeare is plagued…with writer’s block. And also the actual plague, as he is holed up with his apprentice Francis without anything to do. Through the window climbs Jane Anger, a writer with a dream to change history. While Jane convinces Shakespeare to write KING LEAR, Anne Hathaway (his wife, not the one from DEVIL WEARS PRADA) arrives, having missed her husband for the past 10 years. Constricted to one room, what creativity and conflict will explode between these four? Can Shakespeare write his masterpiece? Will Francis be allowed to act in it despite his age (anywhere from 15 to 40, we’re totally not sure and he doesn’t seem to be either)? Will Jane get to publish her masterpiece? Will anyone ever respect Anne Hathaway?
Shows on Thur, Fri, and Sat are at 8pm. Shows on Sunday are 3pm.

Spartanburg artist Robert Urban’s latest mixed media works use trees “as a metaphor for family and the relationships we all hold dear within the family circle and beyond.” The contemporary landscapes will be shown in the “Push & Pull: New Work” exhibit Jan. 7 through Feb. 22, 2025, in the Solomon Gallery of the Artists Collective | Spartanburg.
An artist’s reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, as part of Spartanburg ArtWalk. The reception and exhibition viewing are free and open to the public. The 30-plus pieces in the show will be offered for purchase with prices ranging from $150 to $5,000.
“Nature, and specifically trees, are used as metaphors to represent the passage of time, within nature itself, of course, but also within our human relationships – our family, friends and communities,” says Urban, originally from Wisconsin. “The exhibition title refers to the many different forces and ways that we experience either a ‘push’ or a ‘pull’ – our interactions within nature, relationships and our communities.”

Sundays Unplugged
All of the museums are open, live music and artists on the plaza… Stop by!
At the beginning of the year, Chapman extended its hours to include Sundays 1-5 p.m. to better accommodate patrons’ schedules. Within a few weeks, all museums and galleries were open on Sundays. To add value to the experience, local musicians were brought in to perform free mini-concerts 2-4 p.m. This Sunday, Brandon Skipper will entertain with his adult alternative stylings from 2-4 p.m.
In addition to free music, patrons can enjoy Sunday Art Market, a bazaar of locally handmade artwork. As always, Artists’ Guild Gallery, Spartanburg Art Museum, and Spartanburg Regional History Museum are free, and Spartanburg Science Center is open for a small fee. There are affordable cultural activities and entertainment available for all ages and tastes.
The latest addition to Sundays Unplugged–Sunday Art Market–provides vending opportunities to local artists in order to “encourage a culturally vibrant community.” The market will be open on Sundays year-round. All items for purchase are handmade and come from a wide array of mediums. All sales are received wholly by the artists.
Any local artist interested in participating must pay $10 per twelve-month period and complete the application. Find the form online or ask for one upon arrival. Only individuals or non-profit artist groups are eligible. Ten-foot by 10-foot spaces are allotted on a first-come-first-serve basis, but artists must provide their own tables, chairs, tents, etc. and be able to set up without staff assistance. Items for sale have to be local and original.
Find out more about Sundays Unplugged at Chapman Cultural Center by calling (864) 542-ARTS or visiting ChapmanCulturalCenter.org.

One of the most captivating vocal talents to emerge in recent years, Natalie Jane makes the most intimate emotions feel larger-than-life. Thanks to massive hits like “AVA” and “Seven”—both featured on her 2023 debut EP Where Am I? (Capitol Music Group/10K Projects)— the New Jersey-raised, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter has amassed over 500 million combined global streams to date, all while selling out headline tours across the U.S. and Europe and taking the stage at major festivals like Lollapalooza. After reigning as one of the most viewed musical artists on TikTok in the U.S. last year and landing on GRAMMY.com’s list of “25 Rising Artists To Watch In 2024,” the 20-year-old pop sensation is gearing up to share a new body of work matching her powerhouse voice with both soulful sensitivity and unapologetic attitude—a dynamic she’s embodied since self-releasing her own music in high school.
With her fast-growing list of accolades including earning a nomination for the Social Star Award at the 2024 iHeart Radio Music Awards, Natalie’s latest output includes her summer 2024 single “Somebody to Someone (I Just Wanna Fall in Love)”: a heavy-hearted ballad that captures the infinitely relatable ache of longing for true love. Once again proving the tremendous resonance of her songwriting, teaser videos for the gorgeously soaring track surpassed 25 million combined views and inspired over 13,000 creations on TikTok, where Natalie’s down-to-earth presence and magnetic personality have built an extraordinarily close connection with her legion of fans.
“In general, I want my music to be something for people to put on in the car when they’re feeling upset and need some kind of outlet to scream along to,” says Natalie. “I want every song to be a therapy session.”
