In “Holiday Classics and Sing-Along Messiah,” Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate the Holiday Season with selections from favorite Holiday movies, as well as traditional pieces and a Sing-Along Messiah.
SPO Music Director Sarah Ioannides will lead the concert as part of her 10th Anniversary Celebration. More than 190 voices will join the SPO musicians on stage in a holiday concert to remember.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at Twichell Auditorium on the campus of Converse College. Free valet parking will be available starting at 6 p.m., along with a pre-concert glass of wine.
The program will include beloved favorites like “Somewhere in My Memory,” “Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas” from Home Alone, John Rutter’s “Shepherd Pipe Carol,” Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride,” “Il est ne le divin enfant” (He is born, the Divine Child) by Faure, and “Fum, Fum, Fum” for lovers of Disney’s movie Frozen. SPO and award-winning child soprano Emma Brooke Alley will perform “Frozen Heart,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman,” “In Summer,” “Let it Go,” and “For the First Time in Forever.” The second half of the program will feature an audience ‘sing-along’ of Handel’s Messiah.
The 190+ voices joining the SPO on stage will include local choirs and soloists. The featured choirs are: The Spartanburg Day School Children’s Chorus and Chamber Choir led by Sally Frick, The Wofford Singers led by Christi Sellars & Gary McGraw, The Dorman High School Chorus led by Angela D. Lemere & Glenda Snead, and The Spartanburg High School Chorus, led by Dr. John Moody and Lisa Cunningham.
Collaborating on several numbers for the pieces are Emma Brooke Alley, child soprano; Pamela Williamson, alto; Wayne Hobbs, tenor; and Cory Schantz, baritone.
SPO Executive Director Kathryn Boucher stated, “This year’s Holiday Concert is a wonderful community collaboration for the entire family to enjoy. We feel especially lucky to have such amazing talent right here in Spartanburg performing with our professional musicians. This will be a spectacular night of music to ring in the beginning of the Holiday Season.”
