Final Performances for Spartanburg Little Theatre’s The Mystery of Irma Vep

You can forget Downtown Abbey when The Spartanburg Little Theatre takes you on a wildly hilarious romp through all the scary gothic novels and movies you loved as a kid.

Performances will run through November 9 at Chapman Cultural Center. Irma Vep is the perfect scream for the Halloween season.

When Lord Edgar Hillcrest and his new wife Lady Enid embark on a journey to find out what happened to Irma Vep (his first wife), they are taken from their estate in England all the way to Egypt in this sidesplitting gothic spoof, complete with werewolves, vampires and damsels in distress. But the best part of this whole evening? All of the roles are played by two men. Fast-changes abound as the two chase the hysterical story through the foggy mansions into Egypt and back again!

“The audience will be left laughing in wonder as much as surprise,” veteran guest director John Fagan said. “With an army of backstage dressers, these two actors sometimes have less than five seconds to change from a men’s suit into a Victorian dress, complete with jewelry and wigs. It really is an amazing feat.”

Tickets for The Mystery of Irma Vep can be purchased by calling Chapman Cultural Center’s box office at (864) 542-2787 or by ordering online at www.chapmanculturalcenter.org. Tickets are $25 for adults, $24 for seniors and $17 for students. Student rush tickets are available for $10 on Friday, Oct. 31, and Friday, Nov. 2, only.

“Come on out and join us for an alternative to the usual Halloween insanity,” Fagan said. “But be prepared to laugh yourself breathless.”
