Gibb Named Dean of Mary Black School Of Nursing At USC Upstate

The University of South Carolina Upstate announces the appointment of Dr. Katharine Gibb as dean of the Mary Black School of Nursing. She will provide administrative leadership and oversight for all face to face and online programs across two campuses.

Dr. Gibb came to USC Upstate in 2008 as assistant dean and assistant professor of the Mary Black School of Nursing and has since served in the capacity as both associate dean and interim dean. Additionally, she holds the Mary Black Endowed Chair for Nursing and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

“Dr. Katharine Gibb’s wealth of knowledge and experience makes her the ideal selection to lead the Mary Black School of Nursing,” said Dr. Tom Moore, chancellor of USC Upstate. “In today’s ever-changing world of medicine, Dr. Gibb will deliver the right leadership as USC Upstate creates and provides the best educational environment for our students and healthcare community.”

Gibb earned an Ed.D. in curriculum in higher education from the University of Sarasota, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Boston College School of Nursing. Gibb currently serves on the Greenville Technical College Advisory Board and chair of the South Carolina Deans & Directors.

The Mary Black School of Nursing at USC Upstate, fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the South Carolina Board of Nursing, is one of the Southeast’s most highly regarded nursing institutions offering a four-year pre-licensure degree, and the largest RN-BSN nursing program in South Carolina available in face to face and online opportunities. Beginning this fall, the Mary Black School of Nursing will also offer a Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis on the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) role.
