Free Concert by Indie Folk Rock Band Barleycove on August 24th

Singer-Songwriter Concerts are held every Sunday, 2-4 p.m., with genres and artists varying week-to-week. Local band Barleycove will provide this weekend’s free concert.

Chapman Cultural Center is Spartanburg’s premier location for casual and cultural entertainment on Sunday afternoons.

Free admission to most museums and galleries are complemented by a free Singer-Songwriter Concert series, all designed to help patrons “unplug,” 1-5 p.m. Discover, experience, and celebrate local culture this Sunday, Aug. 24, during Chapman’s Sundays Unplugged program.

Barleycove, a three-piece musical outfit, is lead by singer-songwriter Laura Clinton, a classically trained pianist and vocalist. Clinton is also a public school teacher who believes “music is about connectivity to one another,” and that it “can bring healing.” Barleycove’s classical and electric guitarist, Jesse Thomas, self-publishes comics when he’s not performing. Tim Trammel completes the band as the drummer, having played locally for many years with his church family.

The band recently debuted its first LP entitled “Release,” recorded with producer Mike Rowe at Yellow Mama Music. Barleycove plans to tour outside of the Carolinas to promote the album. Already, the band has brought its unique brand of musical healing to various venues both locally and otherwise, playing at Freddy’s Bar in Brooklyn, NY, just last year. They perform both originals and covers, heavily influenced by artists such as Damien Rice, The Civil Wars, Ani Difranco, and Patty Griffen. Described as “modern folk and Americana with tinges of classic rock in the vein of Fleetwood Mac,” Barleycove seeks to merge the sounds of the ’70s with influences of the modern age.

As always, all Sundays Unplugged activities complement free admission to Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg Gallery, Spartanburg Art Museum, Spartanburg Regional History Museum, and the Student Galleries. Spartanburg Science Center is open for a small fee.
