Five Historic Spartanburg Homes Decked for the Holidays

Five historic homes, ranging from stately Queen Anne-style to Craftsmen bungalows will be decked out in their holiday finery for the two-day tour of homes. The tour kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 6, 5-9 p.m., and concludes on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2-5 p.m.

“The historic district is excited to be renewing the home tour this year,” Tour Director Eugene Spiess said of the event that attracted visitors from throughout the area for many years. “We scheduled the tour once again for the weekend after Dickens of a Christmas to offer another opportunity for Upstate residents to go back in time to another era and enjoy the ambiance of the vintage homes.”

The tour route, lined with luminaries, will become a scene reminiscent of the Victorian and Edwardian era when the core of the neighborhood was built. A horse-drawn carriage will carry tour participants up and down West Hampton Avenue as carolers and homeowners dressed in period clothing recreate the bygone time period. Streets and homes will be alive with the sounds of carolers, the St. John’s Brass and Jhon Akers’ guitar.

Featured on the tour are the homes of…
• Will and Laura Ringo, 251 W. Hampton Avenue;
• Ken and Renee Pangel, 266 W. Hampton Avenue;
• Jerry and Sarah Beth Gadus, 484 Hampton Drive;
• Lukas Hauser and Julie Sexeny, 526 Hampton Drive; and
• Matt Johnston and Kimberly Rostan, 516 Peronneau Street.

The tour is funded in part by The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg, its donors, the County and City of Spartanburg and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment of the Arts and the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina.

Tickets are $15 before Dec. 6 and $20 the days of the tour. Children 12 and under who are accompanied by an adult will be admitted free of charge.

Ticket outlets in Spartanburg are The Urban Planter, Partners for Active Living and Hub City Bookshop. On the days of the tour, tickets may be purchased at Spartanburg Preparatory School on South Spring Street.
