Casey Patrick, who will join Hub City as writer-in-residence in mid-September, grew up outside of Philadelphia and has lived in western Illinois, the Inland Northwest, and Minneapolis, where she currently resides.
For the last year, she has worked as the publishing assistant at Milkweed Editions. Her poems and interviews have recently appeared in Willow Springs and Fourteen Hills, and her work is forthcoming in Compose: A Journal of Simply Good Writing.
She received her BA from Knox College and her MFA from Eastern Washington University. While at Eastern Washington, she was Poetry Editor of Willow Springs and Student Director for Writers in the Community. She has taught creative writing classes to elementary, high school, and adult students, and will join the Loft Literary Center’s roster of teaching artists this fall. She is also the copy editor for Sundog Lit, an online journal. Outside of writing and editing, Casey has a passion for helping others and has volunteered with a variety of organizations, including the Red Cross, Free Arts Minnesota, and Rainbow Riders, a therapeutic horseback riding center in Monmouth, IL.
She is at work on a poetry manuscript that examines our fascination with female historical figures and how they are understood in a contemporary context. Much of her work centers on Amelia Earhart, though she has also written about Zelda Fitzgerald, Marie Curie, and Clara Bow. She’s interested in exploring what it means for these women to be a symbol, and how legacy is often distorted by the historical record.
Casey will serve as writer-in-residence until mid-May 2015.
